The Monte Vista Pirates will venture away from home to challenge the Ignacio Bobcats at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Monte Vista is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.

Monte Vista easily dispatched Crowley County on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Monte Vista fell just short of Fowler by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Pirates couldn't push the score so high this time.

Manny Jiron made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Azariah Hurtado also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Ignacio took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Dolores.

Cole W was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. W was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, William M was a standout: he scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Gabe A, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Ignacio always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dolores only posted an OBP of .261.

Monte Vista's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Ignacio, their win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0.

Monte Vista beat Ignacio 11-8 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monte Vista since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
