The Lake Marion Gators were the 50-41 winner over the Academic Magnet Raptors when they last played one another last Friday, but their luck changed this time around. Lake Marion took a 39-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Academic Magnet.
Lake Marion's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Danasia Wright, who scored six points along with 17 rebounds and two steals. Wright hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Teonna Allen, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Lake Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Academic Magnet's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sophia Benich led the charge by scoring six points along with five rebounds and four steals. Abby Brauchle was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds.
Lake Marion has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Academic Magnet, their victory bumped their record up to 7-18.
