The Snow Canyon Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Pine View Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Snow Canyon is likely headed into the match with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Hurricane on Friday. Snow Canyon took a 61-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hurricane. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Tigers are ranked 33rd).
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Reggie Mackay and Brigham Kemp. Kemp had a solid game and posted 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Meanwhile, Mackay did his best for the losing side, putting up 17 points.
Meanwhile, Pine View came up short against Crimson Cliffs on Friday and fell 58-48. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Snow Canyon will need to focus on slowing down Jelani Odjegba, one of several Pine View players who made an impact when they last played. He almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Moore, who put up 15 points.
Even though they lost, Pine View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since the start of last season.
Snow Canyon dropped their record down to 5-18 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Pine View, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Snow Canyon has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 24.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Pine View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Snow Canyon ended up a good deal behind Pine View in their previous matchup two weeks ago, losing 60-43. Can Snow Canyon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
