The Apex Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Panther Creek Catamounts at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Apex is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: Green Level, who was ranked first at the time (Apex was ranked 17th). The Cougars took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gators on Thursday. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Gators recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-10, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16.
Despite the loss, Apex saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Luci Deese had seven digs and two aces.
Meanwhile, Panther Creek lost 3-0 to Jordan on Thursday.
While Panther Creek had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-18, 25-21.
Apex will need to focus on slowing down Lyndsey Little, one of several Panther Creek players who made an impact when they last played. She had five aces and two blocks. Cayleigh Brown was another key player, getting 14 digs.
Apex's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Panther Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.
Apex took their win against Panther Creek when the teams last played back in September by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
