The South Lyon Lions will challenge the Walled Lake Western Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ten must be South Lyon's lucky number: they beat South Lyon East with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Cougars. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Luke Stevens made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Stevens was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other pitching news, Holden Terry tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Gavin Crowley, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Meanwhile, Walled Lake Western can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. Everything went their way against Mott as they made off with a 23-6 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Warriors considering their two-run performance the match before.
Novak Lazich and Lucas Hoffmeyer did most of the damage at the plate: Lazich got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Hoffmeyer went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those doubles were Lazich's first of the season. Dallas Sauve was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Walled Lake Western always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .574. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
South Lyon's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Walled Lake Western, their win bumped their record up to 9-5-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Lyon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Walled Lake Western struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went South Lyon's way against Walled Lake Western when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as South Lyon made off with a 16-1 victory. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
