The Langley Saxons will venture away from home to square off against the Paul VI Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Langley 3.1, Paul VI 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Langley's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Washington-Liberty by a score of 5-0. The Saxons haven't had any issues with the Generals recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Not much got past Norah Jacques, who gave up just a hit and racked up 19 Ks to keep Washington-Liberty off the board. Jacques has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Langley let Megan Connery and Elena Calsyn run wild. Connery went 2-for-3 with two runs, while Calsyn went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Mady Fiorenini also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Langley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington-Liberty only posted a batting average of .056.
Meanwhile, Paul VI hadn't done well against Our Lady of Good Counsel recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Falcons 10-1. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.
Giovanna Gottfried spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Presley Gatlin was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four RBI, and one triple while going 3-for-3. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Faith Colligan, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Langley's record is now 10-4. As for Paul VI, their record now sits at 17-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Langley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Paul VI struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Langley was able to grind out a solid win over Paul VI when the teams last played back in March of 2025, winning 7-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saxons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
