Dillion Hughes made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Greencastle got a massive performance out of Nathan Sutherlin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Bryton Gregg, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Greencastle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brown County only posted a batting average of .300.
North Montgomery hit Crawfordsville with a eight-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Athenians came up short against the Chargin' Chargers, falling 17-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Athenians have suffered against the Chargin' Chargers since May 11, 2022.
Crawfordsville also got a good showing from Ethan Campbell, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Campbell has allowed since back in April.
On the hitting side, Matt Miller made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI. Mason McCarty was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Greencastle pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Crawfordsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10-1.
Crawfordsville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Greencastle hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. It's a different story for Crawfordsville, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain Greencastle's hitters?
