There's no place like home for the Downey Knights, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They strolled past Modesto with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 74-56. That looming 74-56 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Downey yet this season.
Jayden Coelho was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with six assists and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Downey's points. Another player making a difference was Collin Eden, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Andrew Poulsen, who scored 18 points. Phillip Gonder was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Modesto struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Downey racked up 21 assists.
Downey's victory bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Modesto, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Downey will be playing at home against Turlock at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Modesto, they will head out on the road to square off against Gregori at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gregori is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.4 points per game.
