Baseball Recap: Reed Victorious

Reed picked up another tournament win on Wednesday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Wilsonville Wildcats.

Chase Spencer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Reed is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-6-1 otherwise. Spencer was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braxton Liguori, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Reed's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 2-5-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Burns, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

The win got Reed back to even at 7-7-1. As for Wilsonville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Reed will take on Damonte Ranch at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wilsonville, they will face off against Esperanza at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Aztecs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
