Basketball Game Preview: Cambridge Trojans vs. Southern Valley Eagles

The Cambridge Trojans will take on the Southern Valley Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cambridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Southern Valley likes a good challenge.

Cambridge is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Southwest just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell to the Roughriders 69-65. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (63), the Trojans still had to take the loss.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Hodge Raburn, who went 8 of 14 en route to 24 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Krayton Ruggles, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, Southern Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 63-57 heartbreaker at the hands of Bertrand. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while the Vikings are ranked 125th).

Cambridge's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Southern Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.

Everything came up roses for Cambridge against Southern Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 69-41 win. Will Cambridge repeat their success, or does Southern Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
