Masuk has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on The Notre Dame Catholic Lancers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Masuk made easy work of Pomperaug and carried off a 43-22 win.
Jason Champagne continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 213 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries. Champagne was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 69 yards. Shane Walker did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 92 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Catholic put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 49-21 victory over Joel Barlow on the road.
Antwan Davis was his usual excellent self, rushing for 322 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.0 yards per carry. Davis hasn't dropped below sixsolo tackles for three straight games. Bryson Razor was another major influence, as he rushed for 28 yards and ran in a TD.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Joel Barlow to a paltry 218 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Notre Dame Catholic's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Ariel Hanley and Justin Reid who racked up four sacks between them.
Masuk's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-1. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 24.67 points. As for Notre Dame Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as Masuk and Notre Dame Catholic have no problem gaining yardage. Masuk has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 351.7 total yards per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame Catholic struggles in that department as they've been even better at 508 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Everything came up roses for Masuk against Notre Dame Catholic in their previous meeting back in September of 2022 as the squad secured a 38-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Masuk since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
