The inaugural MaxPreps All Sac-Joaquin Section flag football team features 51 players from large and small schools in the region. Selections were based on postseason success, strength of schedule, statistical information provided to MaxPreps and overall impact on the field.
The 2024 season did not disappoint as the amount of teams nearly doubled year-over-year and playoffs went from two to four divisions. This is only just the beginning as the Greater Sacramento region produced some of the best talent throughout the country.
2024 MaxPreps All Sac-Joaquin Section Flag Football Team
Player of the Year
QB/S — Brooklynn Nordquist,
Ponderosa (Shingle Springs), Sr.
The do-it-all player led the Bruins to a 25-0 record and was a force on both sides of the ball for one of the best teams in the country. The senior rushed for over 1,000 yards, threw over 90 touchdowns and had 22 interceptions on defense for the Division 2 section champions.
A huge reason the Golden Eagles repeated as D1 section champions, the Co-SFL MVP picked off 12 passes and hauled in 11 TD grabs on the offensive side. She did this against some of the best competition all season long.
Junior Player of the Year
QB/S — Daisy Throckmorton,
McClatchy (Sacramento), Jr.
The pocket passer threw for an incredible 8,600 yards and 118 touchdowns. She was
also an impact player on defense finishing with 13 interceptions.
Coaches of the Year
Steven Birch — Del Oro (Loomis)The Golden Eagles found a way to win back-to-back D1 section titles. Oak Ridge and Del Oro were two of the top teams in the section, and it showed in the finals with D.O. winning 25-24 with seconds remaining on the clock.
Tyson Escobar — Ponderosa (Shingle Springs)The Bruins were a first-year program and it did not show. Escobar's squad finished the season scoring over 38 points per game and allowed under 10.
Charly Garza — HughsonThe Huskies were the No. 7 seed in the D4 playoff bracket but found a way to beat No. 3 Orestimba and top-seeded and unbeaten Colfax on a way to a section title.
Jay Lottes — Del Campo (Fair Oaks)The Cougars rolled off 12-straight wins to close out the season, including a thrilling 37-34 win over No. 1 seed Livingston in the D3 section finals.
First Team Offense
The senior threw for 117 touchdowns and over 7,300 yards. She had five or more TD passes in 16 games this season.
She could be considered for first team on defense as well. She racked up over
2,000 yards receiving and on defense she was a ball hawk, intercepting 23
passes.
She had a very impressive two-year run at the QB spot for the Rams. She put
up crazy numbers and led her squad to back-to-back final four
appearances.
One of the best pure passing quarterbacks in the section. Led the Timberwolves to back-to-back section title appearances.
WR — Jaden Hiers,
Tokay (Lodi), Sr.
Averaged 18 yards per reception, caught 49 TDs and finished the season with a mind-blowing 2,429 yards receiving.
Shined when it mattered most, including a four-TD and 200-yard performance in the D4 title victory over Colfax.
She was a lock-down corner on defense and also a major threat on offense for the D2 section runner-ups. She finished with well over 1,000 yards receiving on the year.
The senior will walk away leading D.O. to back-to-back D1 titles. She capped off her career by throwing for four touchdowns in the 2024 section title game.
One of the fastest players in the section, she carried the ball 116 times for 2,002 yards and 25 touchdowns. She also caught an additional 13 TD grabs.
The three-sport star was one of the top offensive playmakers in the section. Williams finished 2024 with 1,635 yards receiving and 24 touchdowns.
QB — Sophia Wright,
Del Campo (Fair Oaks), Sr.
The senior walked away a D3 section title winner after throwing for 363 yards and five scores during a thrilling 37-34 win over Livingston. She also made plays all year long running the ball with over 1,000 yards on the ground.
First Team Defense
Madi Corey,
Antelope, Sr.
Another player who did it all for her team. She scored 27 touchdowns and was a beast for the Titan defense.
Kaia Diederichs,
Colfax, Sr.
One of the top multi-sport athletes in the section and one of the top dual threats in flag football. She led the Falcons to a D4 section title runner-up finish.
Edwards could have been first team on both sides of the ball. The senior was named Co-MVP of the SFL league after causing havoc wherever she lined up on the field.
Stephanie Freas,
Ponderosa (Shingle Springs), Jr.
She was in the middle of a defense that had 12 shutouts. She led the Bruins with 115 total tackles and also had 11 INTs, five which took back to the house.
She
was a big threat on both sides of the ball. The junior found pay dirt
nearly 30 times on offense and roamed over the top as a safety for a
team who allowed under 10 points in the 13 games.
Could be considered one the top dual-threat players in the entire section. She had 31 touchdowns this season and offenses game planned to go away from her.
A force in the middle for the D3 section champions. She made the biggest play of the year, returning an INT to help propel them to a championship.
Bella Perry,
Lodi, Sr.
A major force on both sides of the ball. She caught 20 touchdown passes and finished the year with 19 INTs.
One of the top pass rushers in the section. The senior finished with 23 sacks and 72 total tackles.
A big threat on both sides of the ball, including catching the game winning TD in the D1 section title game. The senior was all over the field on defense, with 84 tackles and 10 INTs.
