Baseball Recap: Crete-Monee Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Crete-Monee waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Blue Island Eisenhower Cardinals as they made off with a 14-5 victory. 14 seems to be a good number for the Warriors as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Bren Milburn made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with eight stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those eight stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Crete-Monee let Anthony Monegan and Keyshon James run wild. Monegan got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while James went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. James has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Bryce Milburn was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Crete-Monee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Crete-Monee pushed their record up to 12-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Blue Island Eisenhower, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crete-Monee will head out to square off against Lemont at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lemont HS will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Blue Island Eisenhower, they will head out on the road to challenge Evergreen Park at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
