Laurel and Hattiesburg are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The Laurel Golden Tornadoes will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Hattiesburg Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on December 7th. Laurel will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while Hattiesburg is ranked eighth).
Last Tuesday, Laurel lost to Petal on the road by a decisive 63-46 margin.
Meanwhile, Hattiesburg earned a 40-30 win over South Pike on Tuesday.
Hattiesburg can attribute much of their success to Logan Burns, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Stephen McCullon Jr., who scored 14 points along with 6 steals. The match was McCullon Jr.'s seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Chris Moody, who scored 7 points along with 3 steals.
Laurel's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Hattiesburg, they have yet to lose a match on the road this season, leaving them with a 6-1 record.
Laurel came up short against Hattiesburg in their previous matchup back in February, falling 69-56. Can Laurel avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
