The Clarksville Wildcats will square off against the Lewisburg Patriots at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. Clarksville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Clarksville is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Lincoln just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans. The matchup marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Porter Murff was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Kirk Weatherford made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. Carter Hedrick also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Lewisburg entered their tilt with Riverdale on Wednesday with four consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with five. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 18-14. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Patriots, who until this contest were averaging four runs allowed.
Will Butler looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.
At the plate, Caden Nelson was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Walendzik, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Lewisburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Lewisburg pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Clarksville, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Clarksville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lewisburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
