Basketball Recap: Shawnee Picks Up Tenth Consecutive Victory

Shawnee waltzed into their contest on Thursday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They were the clear victor by a 44-21 margin over the Joppa-Maple Grove Rangers. The Redskins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Shawnee's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emma Young, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. Young's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliza Ford, who posted three points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

Shawnee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Joppa-Maple Grove only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Despite the loss, Joppa-Maple Grove saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaylea Anderson had 11 points.

Shawnee pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.1 points per game. As for Joppa-Maple Grove, they are on a 25-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Shawnee didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-35 win against Northside Baptist Christian on the 24th. Joppa-Maple Grove has also already played their next contest, a 45-41 defeat against Cobden on the 24th.
