Even though the Moanalua Menehune scored an imposing 57 points on Thursday, the Mid-Pacific Institute Owls still came out on top. Mid-Pacific Institute managed a 63-57 victory over Moanalua. The win made it back-to-back wins for Mid-Pacific Institute.
Leading Mid-Pacific Institute to victory were Logan Mason and Darius Chizer. Mason dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Chizer scored 21 points. The game was Mason's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Bow, who scored ten points.
Moanalua's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jahleel Small, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Gavin Pommerenk, who scored 11 points.
Mid-Pacific Institute's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Moanalua, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.
Mid-Pacific Institute and Kaimuki will face off at 9:00 a.m. on December 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Kaimuki has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
