Softball Recap: Burbank Wins Going Away Against Highlands

Burbank barely beat Highlands the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs blew past the Owls 15-2 on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by exactly 13 runs.

Evelyn Lopez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Burbank let Giselle Garcia and Kyrsten Garza run wild. Garcia scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Garza scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those four hits gave Garcia a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jalyn Ortiz, who scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4.

Burbank pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Highlands, they moved to 10-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Burbank and Highlands will both be playing Seguin the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will head out to face the Matadors at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, while the Owls will head out to face them at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
