The Center Hill Mustangs had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They secured a 67-61 W over Lake Cormorant. Given Center Hill's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the are ranked 124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Center Hill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jairya Rankins, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Rankins is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Madison Hughes was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Center Hill is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. As for Lake Cormorant, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9.
Center Hill will head out on the road to challenge the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Panola knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully the Mustangs likes a good challenge. As for Lake Cormorant, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m.
