The Folsom Bulldogs will face off against the Rocklin Thunder at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Folsom is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Folsom is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since May 9, 2024 on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Francis, sneaking past 5-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
Raygan Mercado made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits. Mercado was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devyn Huber, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Brooke Digiorno was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
On Wednesday fans watched as two of the best teams in the nation hit the field. Rocklin took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Del Oro. The Thunder's defeat signaled the end of their undefeated season.
Sammie Snell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Folsom's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Rocklin, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.
Folsom's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. Folsom has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Rocklin, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Folsom continue to outrun the ball?
Folsom came out on top in a nail-biter against Rocklin in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Will Folsom repeat their success, or does Rocklin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
