The Astoria/VIT Rebels's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell just short of West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] by a score of 44-42. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Astoria/VIT of the 55-37 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Astoria/VIT's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was TOMMI GORSUCH, who scored 15 points along with five assists and four steals. That was a full 35.7% of Astoria/VIT's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. KATE STAMBAUGH was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Astoria/VIT has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 13 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-24 record this season. As for West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs], their victory bumped their record up to 14-12.
Astoria/VIT won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bushnell-Prairie City at 12:00 p.m. on February 6th. Bushnell-Prairie City comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last ten games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs], they will be playing at home against Beardstown at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
