The South Effingham Mustangs's game on Saturday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against Johnson by a score of 57-47. That looming 57-47 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for South Effingham yet this season.
South Effingham's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyra Guyton, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Guyton scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Chapman, who scored 17 points along with five assists and three steals.
South Effingham's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-6. As for Johnson, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Effingham will face off against Camden County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Camden County is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Johnson won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Vincent's at 6:00 p.m. on December 13th. St. Vincent's is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
