The Monticello Panthers will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Liberty Indians at 5:45 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Monticello's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell to Minisink Valley 34-28. Monticello has not had much luck with Minisink Valley recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite their defeat, Monticello saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Isabella Velasquez, who scored 13 points, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Velasquez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amiah Neails, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Liberty ended up a good deal behind Chester on Monday and lost 46-27.
Monticello has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Liberty, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
Monticello took their win against Liberty in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 40-20. Does Monticello have another victory up their sleeve, or will Liberty turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
