Basketball Game Preview: Burlington Cougars vs. Calhan Bulldogs

Burlington has gone 6-0 against Calhan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Burlington Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Calhan Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Calhan took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Burlington, who comes in off a win.

Burlington is coming into the match on the come-up as their season has now been buoyed by two straight victories. They managed a 52-48 win over Haxtun on Saturday.

Burlington found their leader in sophomore Weston Schaal, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Schaal has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Schaal, who posted eight points and seven rebounds.

Burlington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Calhan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a 68-37 loss at the hands of Peyton. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while the Panthers are ranked 121st).

Burlington's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-6. As for Calhan, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Burlington strolled past Calhan in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 73-58. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Calhan's Patrick Glaser, who went 16 of 30 on his way to 42 points along with seven boards and four steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Burlington still be able to contain Glaser? There's only one way to find out.
