The Riverton Silverwolves will head out on the road to face off against the Layton Lancers at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Riverton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Riverton made easy work of Bountiful and carried off a 14-1 victory. The Silverwolves haven't had any issues with the RedHawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
McKay Linford looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Riverton got a massive performance out of Bryce Mounteer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Mounteer also hit a double, marking his first of the season. McKade Ortiz was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Riverton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Layton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past West Ranch 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lancers have posted since April 24, 2024.
Layton also got a great performance from Kaleb Hall as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Andres Cedeno was excellent, going 1-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
Riverton's record now sits at 5-2. As for Layton, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.
Layton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Riverton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. It's a different story for Layton, though, as they've only averaged .149. Will they be able to contain Riverton's hitters?
Riverton couldn't quite finish off Layton when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can Riverton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
