AAAAAA Region 1 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Valdosta was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Tift County. The Wildcats came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.
Lowndes extended the longest winning streak in AAAAAA Region 1 this week by beating Coffee, 31-29. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Vikings.
Colquitt County's dynamic duo of Daniel Mobley and Javonta Woods proved tough for Brunswick to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Mobley threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns and Woods had 230 yards receiving. Bobby Hill helped Colquitt County's passing attack out by catching six balls for 79 yards.
Nick Burgman was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 83 yards as Lowndes defeated the Pirates. Teammate TIQUAN LANG added to the ground attack by rushing for 61 yards.
On the ground, the Vikings' Burgman has rushed for 732 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Hill. The Colquitt County star has 35 catches for 545 yards.
The marquee game in AAAAAA Region 1 this week will be the clash between Colquitt County and Valdosta. Rush Propst's team enters the contest ranked 10th in the state, while Rance Gillespie's team ranks 23rd.
The Packers were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, Colquitt County triumphed over Brunswick 44-26.
