There's no place like home for the Butte County Pirates, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 60-46 victory over Murtaugh on Saturday. Given Butte County's advantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Red Devils are ranked 126th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Brody Westergard, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and three steals. He hasn't dropped below 17 points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Keaton Archibald, who scored ten points along with five steals.
Butte County pushed their record up to 11-3 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.9 points per game. As for Murtaugh, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Butte County will take on the Savages at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Salmon is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Murtaugh, they and the Hornets will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Oakley will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
