Softball Recap: Spanish Springs Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Spanish Springs, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. Everything went their way against the Damonte Ranch Mustangs on Thursday as they made off with an 11-1 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Lily Delamora tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lily Spease was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddy Marshall, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Spanish Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Spanish Springs has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Damonte Ranch, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Spanish Springs will head out to challenge Galena at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Grizzlies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.71 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Damonte Ranch, they will challenge Reno at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs are facing the Huskies at the right time seeing as the Huskies are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
