The Uintah Utes had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They slipped by Provo 63-62 on Tuesday. The win was just what Uintah needed coming off of a 86-48 loss in their prior matchup.
Uintah's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dauson Gardiner, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. Brayden Murray was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Defeat or not, Provo got some senior leadership from Finn Powelson and Aaron Castagnetto. Powelson scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Castagnetto. scored 22 points. That was a full 35.5% of Provo's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jason Carter, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Uintah's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Provo, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Uintah will square off against Timpanogos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Timpanogos is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Provo, they will head out on the road to take on Layton Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Layton Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 17 contests -- so hopefully Provo likes a good challenge.
