The Avon Orioles's game on Thursday was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to North Central. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Avon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aniah Smith, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. The game was Smith's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Soryah Hart, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Avon were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Avon now has a losing record at 6-7. As for North Central, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon will take on Brownsburg at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hamilton Southeastern at 5:00 p.m. on December 29th. Hamilton Southeastern will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
