Russell has gone a perfect 4-0 against Morgan County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. Russell will head out on the road to take on Morgan County at 6:00 p.m. Russell is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Russell took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lawrence County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Russell had just enough and edged out Lawrence County 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Devils have posted since May 4, 2024.
Kyle Mokas made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Mokas was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Grayson Kiser was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Caden Criswell also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Russell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .381 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Morgan County never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Elliott County on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 24-0 win. That looming 24-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.
Like Russell, Morgan County also got a great game from a two-way player: Will Lane. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lane was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Morgan County got a massive performance out of Cooper Fleming, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Isaac Campbell was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Morgan County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. Russell's record now sits at 4-0.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Russell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. However, it's not like Morgan County struggles in that department as they've averaged .515. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Russell beat Morgan County 8-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Russell since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
