Baseball Recap: St. Augustine Prep Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory

13 must be St. Augustine Prep's lucky number: they beat Vineland with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Hermits beat the Fighting Clan by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-3. The Hermits might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Ethan Suppi made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had over his last three contests. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other pitching news, Jameson Dobis looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last three games.

Back at the plate, Alex Weingartner was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Lloyd, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four RBI and one stolen base.

St. Augustine Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vineland only posted an OBP of .292.

The victory made it two in a row for St. Augustine Prep and bumps their season record up to 16-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Vineland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9.

Looking ahead, Vineland will challenge Absegami at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Augustine Prep will be paying especially close attention to the Fighting Clan's matchup: after the Fighting Clan face off against the Braves, they'll take on St. Augustine Prep again at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
