The Columbia Academy Bulldogs fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Fayetteville Tigers on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to the Tigers. Columbia Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Fayetteville apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Despite the defeat, Columbia Academy saw an underclassman step up: Haley Collins scored 24 points along with five steals. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillie Gentry, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds.
Columbia Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Fayetteville, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbia Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Tennessee Heat at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Tennessee Heat is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. Fayetteville will be home for the holidays to greet Harriman at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Harriman is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
