The Bertrand Vikings's game on Saturday was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell to Southern Valley 46-40. Bertrand was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Southern Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played on January 4th.
Despite the loss, Bertrand still got an impressive performance from Marcus Hernandez, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Hernandez posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Scott Bieker, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds.
Bertrand struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Southern Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaac Hamilton, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. Kamden Bose was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Bertrand and nudges their season record down to 5-8. As for Southern Valley, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Bertrand will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Medicine Valley at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. As for Southern Valley, they will face off against Alma at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Alma focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five last Thursday.
