The Sunnyslope Vikings waltzed into their matchup on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They came out on top against Pinnacle by a score of 62-52. Given Sunnyslope's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Pinnacle is ranked 34th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sunnyslope's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Darius Wabbington led the charge by scoring 19 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wabbington has scored all season. John Mattingly was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Sunnyslope is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Pinnacle, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sunnyslope on the road again on Tuesday and play against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Liberty focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday. As for Pinnacle, they will head out on the road to face off against O'Connor at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. O'Connor will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
