Southern Lee is 0-10 against Pinecrest since March of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Southern Lee Cavaliers will venture away from home to square off against the Pinecrest Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Southern Lee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Southern Lee was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Jordan-Matthews on Wednesday. Everything went Southern Lee's way against Jordan-Matthews as Southern Lee made off with a 19-3 victory. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Jets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Bailey Berg was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those hits were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Southern Lee got a massive performance out of Spencer Stephens, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Stephens also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Bryan McCollum, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Pinecrest waltzed into their game on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They skirted past the Rams 5-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Pinecrest also got a great performance from Taylor Graves as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched.
At the plate, Liam Dutton was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Seth Norris was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Pinecrest pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Southern Lee, their record is now 7-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Southern Lee has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pinecrest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Southern Lee couldn't quite finish off Pinecrest in their previous meeting on Tuesday and fell 4-2. Can Southern Lee avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
