Gilpin County had trouble last Friday, and unfortunately for them, their opponent this week is a big step up in difficulty. On Friday they will take on Rangely at 7:00 PM. Gilpin County are the clear underdogs, so they're hoping it's the size of the fight that determines this one.
Things haven't been easy for Gilpin County, and their contest last Friday only extended their streak of losses to seven. They ended up on the wrong side of a painful 18-52 walloping at Vail Christian's hands. Despite the defeat, Gilpin County saw an underclassman step up: Sophomore Stephen King rushed for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns. This marked the 4th matchup in which King has rushed for over 100 yards.
Meanwhile, Rangely put the finishing touches on their 5th blowout victory of the season. They steamrollered Soroco 48-6. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-0.
Rangely's victory lifted them to 6-1 while Gilpin County's loss dropped them down to 0-7. In Rangely's victory, senior Drew Brannan passed for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns and junior Tytus Coombs picked up 88 yards on the ground and caught passes for 95 yards. We'll see if Gilpin County have a strategy for dealing with them or if they lead their team to another successful outing.
