The Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They walked away with a 58-49 win over Somerset College Prep Academy. Given Somerset Academy - Canyons' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Somerset College Prep Academy is ranked 155th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Somerset Academy - Canyons to victory were Alana Pinnock and Alanna Fabrini. Pinnock scored ten points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Fabrini scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Fabrini pulled down eight or more rebounds. Delanie Doty was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Somerset College Prep Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kaeley Ciceron, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Ciceron is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Laylah Dawkins, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Somerset Academy - Canyons' victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Somerset College Prep Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-5.
Somerset Academy - Canyons' road trip will continue as they head out to face Pine Crest at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Hopefully Pine Crest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 back in December of 2023. As for Somerset College Prep Academy, they will be playing at home against Port St. Lucie at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
