Southeast Lauderdale is 1-7 against Kemper County since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Southeast Lauderdale Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Kemper County Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Southeast Lauderdale will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Kemper County is ranked 77th).
After soaring to 42 points the game before, Southeast Lauderdale were a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They were outmatched by Noxubee County at home and fell 46-6.
Meanwhile, Kemper County entered their tilt with Enterprise with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Kemper County slipped by Enterprise 36-35 on Friday. Kemper County had a rough season last year, but they look ready to turn that poor record around this year.
Kemper County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Damarius Yates led the charge by rushing for 190 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Yates is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kendetryon Backstrom, who rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Noxubee County's win bumped their season record to 5-4 while Southeast Lauderdale's loss dropped theirs to 2-7.
Southeast Lauderdale was dealt a bruising 48-13 defeat at the hands of Kemper County in their previous meeting back in September of 2022. Can Southeast Lauderdale avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
