Salem is 2-8 against Landstown since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Sundevils will face off against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Salem put up the most runs they have all season on Monday. Everything went their way against King's Fork as they made off with a 20-2 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Sundevils as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Landstown hadn't done well against Tallwood recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Eagles blew past the Lions 19-3. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.
Sophie Bloodworth looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Adalyn Stumler, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Aubrielle Griffin was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Landstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Salem's record now sits at 3-10. As for Landstown, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Salem's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Sundevils have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Landstown, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Salem continue to outrun the ball?
Salem suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Landstown when the teams last played back in March. Can the Sundevils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
