The Clovis Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 26 points or more this season. They breezed by Santa Fe at home to the tune of 56-18. Given Clovis' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Santa Fe is ranked 71st), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Clovis found their leader in underclassman Gianna Cordova, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Jefferson, who scored nine points along with five assists and four steals.
Clovis' win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Santa Fe, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clovis won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Caprock at 3:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Caprock will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. Santa Fe's road trip will continue as they head out to face Atrisco Heritage Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. Atrisco Heritage Academy is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
