The Valdosta Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by Colquitt County at home and fell 79-48. While losing is never fun, Valdosta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Packers are ranked 33rd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Colquitt County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amira Walters- Smith, who scored 27 points. Walters- Smith is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamya Moore, who scored 19 points along with two steals.
Valdosta dropped their record down to 14-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Colquitt County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 19-4.
Valdosta won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Camden County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Tuesday. As for Colquitt County, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Lowndes knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully the Packers like a good challenge.
