Softball Recap: Juniata Valley Triumphs

Juniata Valley lost to Mount Union last Saturday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Hornets came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 10-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

Braelyn Hall and Bethany Devore made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hall struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Devore pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. With that strong performance, Hall is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. At the plate, Hall went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Devore went 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI. That stolen base was Hall's first of the season.

In other batting news, Klohie Brown was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Lexey Smith also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Juniata Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matchups.

Juniata Valley's record is now 10-5. As for Mount Union, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-9.

Coming up, Juniata Valley will welcome Northern Bedford County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Mount Union, they will head out on the road to take on Southern Huntingdon County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rockets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
