Softball Recap: Whitewright Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

With a playoff win on the line, Whitewright rose to the challenge on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Bland as they made off with a 16-6 win. The result was nothing new for Whitewright, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Taryn Minzenmayer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Taylor Jones was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with six RBI, one triple, and one run. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Joslyn Jones was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

The victory (which was Whitewright's fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Bland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-14.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Whitewright beat Bland by a score of 14-4 later that day.
