Ooltewah waltzed into their matchup on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the McMinn County Cherokees get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The Owls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 20 contests by six runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Hailey Schmidt's shutout, as she gave up just two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Savannah Mayse was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylin Leblanc, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Ooltewah was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McMinn County only posted a batting average of .182.
Ooltewah's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for McMinn County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.
