The Miamisburg Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Springfield Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Miamisburg fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Springboro on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 8-7. The Vikings have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Bryce Vaughn was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Josh Williams also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Springfield). Everything went their way against Trotwood-Madison on Tuesday as they made off with a 27-4 win. The victory was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on four straight.
Bo Hart made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hart was even better at the plate, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (four).
In other batting news, Brent Upshaw Jr. was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Springfield is undefeated when Upshaw Jr. posts two or more runs, but 3-6-1 otherwise. Elijah Cave was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .673. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win got Springfield back to even at 6-6-1. As for Miamisburg, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
Miamisburg couldn't quite finish off Springfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
