Tullahoma is 9-1 against Marshall County since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 4:15 p.m. Tullahoma is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Tullahoma took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They blew past Coffee County Central 8-1. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Red Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Lukas Taylor-Rodriguez looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Baylan Tuten and Hunter Hogan did most of the damage at the plate: Tuten went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Hogan got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Marshall County challenged Columbia Central on Thursday. The Tigers fell 10-5 to the Lions. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Cahlin Henry was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Reid Mitchell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
Marshall County's loss dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Tullahoma, their victory bumped their record up to 20-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tullahoma has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Marshall County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tullahoma came out on top in a nail-biter against Marshall County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
