Even though the Central Chargers scored an imposing 72 points on Tuesday, the Spencer Greenwave still came out on top. Spencer secured a 77-72 W over Central. Given Spencer's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while Central is ranked 420th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Spencer to victory were Gary Gaither and Joe Dozier. Gaither dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, while Dozier dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Gaither is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Kerry Griffin, who scored 11 points.
The victory was the third in a row for Spencer, bringing their record for this year to 20-3. As for Central, their loss dropped their record down to 8-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spencer will face off against Academy for Classical Education at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Academy for Classical Education is coming into the contest with five straight defeats at home, meaning Spencer will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Southwest at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Central has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 225 points over their last three matches.
