The South County Stallions will face off against the South Lakes Seahawks at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. South County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
South County is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Lake Braddock just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 17-6 to the Bruins.
Ava Abromavage was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Oksana Rodriguez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, South Lakes came tearing into Wednesday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Seahawks have posted since June 4, 2024.
Gracie De La Cruz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Meagan Maguire, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Lindsey Poole, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
South Lakes hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.
South Lakes pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for South County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. However, it's not like South Lakes struggles in that department as they've averaged .449. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South County suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to South Lakes in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Will the Stallions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
