Winnsboro is a perfect 4-0 against Commerce since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Winnsboro is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Winnsboro had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Rains on Friday. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Wildcats. The victory was nothing new for the Raiders as they're now sitting on three straight.
Traci Rogers made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Rogers was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Winnsboro let Kari Rogers and Halie Shirley run wild. Rogers went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Shirley went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Avery Herlocker, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Commerce started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Prairiland. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 5-4 on Saturday.
Like Winnsboro, Commerce also got a great game from a two-way player: Charley Lytle. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Lytle has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Kaelyn Morgan made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Winnsboro's record now sits at 13-3-2. As for Commerce, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12-1 record this season.
Commerce's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Winnsboro hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for Commerce, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Winnsboro's hitters?
Everything went Winnsboro's way against Commerce in their previous matchup on March 6th, as Winnsboro made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
